6. Secerts (Or Marcella is a tyrent and very mean to Isla’s boys)
Levi cursed Marcella. Not out loud of course, he wouldn’t make that mistake again. While it had only been a month so much had changed. Marcella had sent Mako away within a week after taking over. Marcella stated he could serve better else where. After that she began to destroy and rebuild areas within the tribe’s land.
The first area Marcella set her sights on was the gardens. She sent Levi and Chrysippos into the gardens and uproot all the plants in the green house. Any grown fruit was put into the larder for safe keeping. She then sent them into the forests to find wild plants, instructing them to find fruits or vegetables. Once found they would collect the plants and destroy the source once all the important parts were collected. Mushrooms, strawberries, pears, and blackberries were the only eatable plants were found.
Levi couldn’t be sure that Marcella was pleased or not. She sent them back into the green house and instructed them how to plant the new fruits and vegetable so they could get the most from the seeds. It wouldn’t have been so bad if they weren’t in a heat wave. Meri had attempted to help them but when Marcella had found out she forced her away.
The destruction and rebuilding of the main hut had been the worst. Levi and Chrysippos had been sent to collect and burn most of the furniture. The heat of the day and bonfire had nearly caused the boys to collapse. When Marcella had found out, she had shouted at them. Threatening punishments that would have caused a younger Levi to fall in line.
Hearing those words directed at himself and Chrysippos, sent Levi into a rage. He lunged at Marcella in attempts to silence her. Levi had not anticipated Marcella to be faster then him. Marcella quickly incapacitated him.
He had woken hours later lying the in dirt. After rising and dusting himself off did he notice Marcella waiting nearby for him.
“I would have expected better from someone like you” she feigned disappointment. “A former warrior slave from the pits should have better disaplin
“How do you know-” he was cut off midsentence when she delivered a hard slap to his face.
“You do not have permission to address me boy” Marcella ignored the rage on his face. “Since you clearly have forgotten your place, I have a special assignment for you”
Marcella gestured to the small square outlined by rocks.
“You will dig until I tell you to stop. You have tools to help you. I wouldn’t want you to injure yourself too badly. You are still useful to this tribe” Marcella left him.
The shadows from the setting sun made it hard to work. Once the sun had been set for a few hours Marcella returned.
“Is this all you were able to do?” her disappointment didn’t phase him. “I will bring light for you to work by. You will be finished once the pit is deep enough for a grown man to be unable to climb out of.”
The surrounding area was soon filled by light.
Levi wasn’t sure how long he had been working for but shifting of the dirt above the hole caught his attention.
“Levi? Are you still down there” a face appeared above him.
“Where else would I be creator heiress?” the response came out harsher then intended.
“Sleeping in bed or whatever it is you do in your bed would be preferable”
“what is it you want Creator Heiress” he had to agree bed would have been nice about now.
“move aside Levi” Levi barely had a chance to make sense of her comment before Meri jumped down into the pit. Before Meri’s feet touched the ground, Levi caught her.
“Are you insane woman?!” while his voice didn’t raise higher then a hushed tone the anger was obvious. “you could have broken something” Levi placed her on the ground.
“I would have been find. It isn’t as deep as you think it is” she dismissed his worried rather quickly.
“That isn’t the point” Meri waved his words away.
“Nonsense and we don’t have a lot of time to get to work. I have Chrysippos on watch for Marcella. We need to work quick to get this done before sunrise”
At these words the two got to work. With Meri’s help Levi managed to dig most of the remainder of the pit.
When the first rays of sunlight began to brighten the sky Chrysippos came running to the pit.
“Lady Meri, it is time to go” Marcella wasn’t awake yet but Meri didn’t want to bring Marcella’s wrath upon the boys. Meri and Levi tossed the shovels onto the ground. Levi boosted Meri up so she could reach the edge of the pit. Chrysippos helped pull the creator heiress up onto solid ground.
“I’m sorry we couldn’t do more” she called into the pit. Levi shook his head.
“This is nothing. Both of you go before the wicked witch finds you here” Chrysippos and Meri quickly made their way back to their rooms, neither wanting to get caught by Marcella or get Levi in more trouble.
