4. Choices
Myrina knew that nothing could mend the heartache sending Kale away had caused Katsumi. Myrina was hurting too but she couldn’t imagine losing a lover like that. She had explained her decision and Katsumi said that she understood but she still would not speak to Myrina. Myrina hoped that a day at the local spa would help mend their friendship.
“Myrina you don’t have to do this” Katsumi finally spoke once they were alone in the changing area.
“The past few days have not been kind to you and I feel responsible for your unhappiness and I never meant to cause you such pain Katsumi”
“You are just doing your job as Creator. You are doing what is best for the tribe and I understand that. I cannot be mad at you for watching out for us” Katsumi replied as the left the changing area. Myrina was surprised that Katsumi was so willing to forgive her.

“I have to admit this spa is beautiful” Katsumi made a sound of agreement. Neither of them has seen a place like this. It was open to the public so men and women could come here together. The sights, sounds and smells were all meant to relax who ever came here. Myrina never expected a heated pool to swim in. She was used to the coolness of the ocean or the lukewarm water of the old algae filled pool in the ruins.
“I am surprised they have a statue of a man in here” Myrina gestured to the statue that watched over the heated pool.
“I would rather have a handsome man then a mermaid or immortal huntress that it more beautiful then me” Katsumi pointed out, studying the the statue. Myrina couldn’t help but agree. The model for the statue was with no doubt a handsome man.

After they exited the pool Katsumi left Myrina alone to get a message. Myrina didn’t mind, it gave her time to think. She had seen her mother make choices growing up. When she was younger she never understood why her mother made such odd rules, now she understood. Ruling a tribe meant making choices that will effect everyone. She had to make that choice for Kale. If Kale was still around he no doubt would have continued his affair with Katsumi. An Idea started to form in Myrina’s mind. Katsumi needed something to keep her mind off of Kale. Another man would be an option but that could lead to the same type of issue that she just dealt with. Maybe a child could help clear Katumi’s gloom.

Myrina went to go find Katsumi. She had been gone for a while. Myrina knocked on the door to the room Katsumi had disappeared into. The sound of whispered voices quieted.
“Katsumi it is me!” she called. “I wanted to make sure you were doing okay?”
Myrina waited for a reply. Was something the matter? It felt like time had slowed to a crawl until Katsumi opened the door.
“Apologies Myrina! I lost track of time” Katsumi closed the door behind her after she exited. “You wanted to use the steam room right?” she lead Myrina to the steam room. The too settled in and Myrina soon forgot Katsumi’s strange actions.
“I have been thinking Katsumi. I want to grant you permission to have a child” Katsumi hummed in response.
“Why me, Myrina? Why not yourself” she questioned. The creator should of course get started on the next creator heiress but it wasn’t unheard of for a tribal sister to have a child first. Myrina hadn’t really thought about it, there were many reason that sprung to mind why she was not yet ready for a child.
“Because I do not feel that I am in a place that would be good for a child” Katsumi was silent for a while, thinking over what Myrina had said.
“Who is going to father the child” Katsumi questioned after some time. Myrina’s first answer would have been Kale but Kale was no longer with them. Myrina shrugged.
“Paser is attractive” Katsumi offered. Myrina would agree. She liked the color of his eyes and the sound of his voice. He was a good caring man. He was useful. Myrina wasn’t sure that Paser should be given to the goddess because of Katsumi’s future child. He was very useful and might still be needed
“I do not know. Paser is good looking, sure but I do not think he is father material. Choose someone else.” Myrina tried not to sound like she was commanding the other woman. She just hoped to change her mind. “Geo would be a good choice. We could also go to the market and find someone there”
“I do not wish to send the man from the market who fathered the child to their doom but I also do not want to say goodbye to Geo, he is a good friend” there was a pause as Katsumi thought over her choices.

The rest of their time at the spa was uneventful. There was a lot for Katsumi to think on. She knew she shouldn’t rush into this type of decision but she also did not want to upset Myrina, who was trying very hard to cheer her up. Once the sun had set Katsumi made her decision. She pulled Geo into the private chambers, where they would not be interrupted. There was no doubt in Katsumi’s mind that a child would come from that night.
